Exhibit: Three Eras of African American Invention

On loan from the Black Inventors Hall of Fame, this exhibit, through vivid images and brief one-minute narrations, allows the viewer to gain a deeper appreciation for the immense talent and the impact that Black inventors and innovators have had on our nation and the world at large.

From the early days of enslavement, African Americans have demonstrated an innovative nature that has impacted the nation in countless ways. Despite facing unimaginable obstacles, they have pushed past the limitations placed upon them to create an enduring legacy of ingenuity, invention and entrepreneurship.

During the Golden Era of Innovation, African American inventors and innovators made significant contributions to a wide range of fields. They created groundbreaking technologies that contributed to advances in medicine, science, and the arts. These innovations continue to shape our world today.

Today, we see the continuation of this legacy in the modern-day titans of industry and innovation. African Americans remain at the forefront of groundbreaking research and development, paving the way for future generations. Their stories are a testament to the resilience, determination, and innovative spirit of African Americans throughout history.

The exhibit will be on view in our gallery during library open hours, February 3-27, 2025.
