Wednesday, April 2, 2025: The Tale of Genji by Murasaki Shikibu

The Tale of Genji is an 11th century Japanese novel that is often called the world's first novel. It is a complex story that follows the life of nobeman Hikaru Genji, the son of an emperor and a low-ranking concubine, and his romantic entanglements. The novel is considered a portrait of courtly life in medieval Japan, and provides a window into the aesthetic principles and practices of the time.
